Be the Change You Want to See in the World - Mahatma Gandhi

Am I the only one who thinks it's a great idea to quit my job of almost 5 years that provides benefits to become an independent contractor that doesn't provide benefits or steady pay? No, but I am doing it anyways. My time at Innovative Health Solutions(IHS) is coming to an end, although it's not a complete end. I will be moving into an independent contractor role and still work with IHS with ParkRx programming; bringing physical activity and parks programming to the community. Nature and Movement, those are my passions and therapy.

Working from home has had its pros and cons. I am an introvert who is sensitive to energy and a total empath, this work is rewarding and draining all at the same time. Being at a computer has been the most draining. Feeling brain fried at the end of the day is worse than being socially or physically drained. That said, I want to be in the community doing the work rather than being box glued to a screen extremely sedentary. The admin/management role is not for me, tried it and it left my burnt out and more anxious. I want to be boots on the ground, interacting with people, guiding them by the hand and directly educating them to empower them. I can't do that if I am not at my best. I need to put my needs first and take it slow so I can be the best for my family and community.

Let's schedule our community hikes, walks, dances, crying circles, and more. With the current state of the world, connecting together is more important than ever. We don't have to do it all on our own. Being hyper-independent is a trauma response. People always say "it takes a village", yet we are doing it on our own feeling isolated. May our strengths help make up for others weaknesses; may our weakness be an opportunity to connect with others' strengths.
